Sunday sweets

After the negative beginning of the week, today we had a great time with our friends John and Rachel and their kids, Maurice and Sophie.
We organized a barbecue in their house, and then we spent the afternoon talking and watching the kids playing together...
I am very happy that the kids are adapting well to the new world, and they are making many new friends. I think that it was a miracle that we taught them English in Italy, so that now they don't have to deal with culture shock and language problems...

On a different note, i am very often bothered by the fact that i notice that very often in Jewish Communities women are not involved enough in communal life, and if they participate in any events, they are usually sitting at a separate table, not really part of the scene (except for serving the food).
I could understand if those women were actually happy about this way of managing events, or even family life, but unfortunately there is a big percentage of married women that confess me that they hate this situation, and it frustrates them to have to stay home with the kids because the husband has to go to shul undisturbed, and the to farbrengen, and then to shul again...
I think that Orthodox Judaism should change its way, it's possible to do it, but it requires an "arousal from below", and i am not asking for women rabbis etc., but for harmony, a balance where man and woman work together in the same direction...i think that that's what marriage is all about, too.
