My challa recipe


Challa Recipe

9 cups flour
1 oz fresh yeast
1 tbsp salt
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup oil
3/4 cup sugar
3 egg yolks

Mix yeast and lukewarm water with one teaspoon of sugar; let it stand until it bubbles, then add all the other ingredients and knead until smooth and soft; let it rise in a bowl covered with plastic film until it doubles in size, then shape it into two braids and two rolls and brush it with some egg yolk or water, and sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds (optional).
Let it rise again for another 45 minutes, then bake at 400 F.
