Strawberry Jelly Roll Recipe!
Strawberry Jelly Roll
4 eggs, separated
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
Grated orange zest
½ jar strawberry preserves
For the frosting:
Confectioners sugar
Strawberry syrup
Water
Whip the egg whites in a mixer.
Ina large bowl, mix the yolks with sugar and vanilla sugar until the mixture turns light yellow.
Add the orange zest, and a bit of the flour.
Add one or two spoons of egg whites, and fold them in being careful not to “unwhip” them.
Add the rest of the flour and egg whites, folding in as much air as possible.
Line a rectangular baking tray with wax paper, and spread the mix to a ¾ centimeter height.
Bake in a preheated oven (175 C), until golden.
Take off the oven and put a rectangular towel on the table. Put the cake on top, and spread the strawberry jelly.
Carefully, start detaching the cake from the wax paper, and at the same time roll it, helping yourself with the towel.
Put the roll on a serving plate, and let it cool off.
In a bowl, mix confectioners sugar with some drops of strawberry syrup and some water, just enough to get a smooth but not too liquid frosting.
Spread on the roll.
Melt some bittersweet chocolate, and decorate the roll by creating some patterns (lines) on top.
Put in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
